Cathy Nugent, a former key supporter of Kansas City’s bid to host the 2016 Republican National Convention, now is working to keep the convention from coming to Kansas City.

On Monday, a representative of the Colorado Republican Party — as well as numerous sources within the Republican National Committee — confirmed that Nugent is working to support Denver’s bid to host the 2016 nominating convention.

Media reports said Nugent, who considered herself the creator of the RNC 2016 concept and orchestrated Kansas City’s early convention efforts, left the committee after a disagreement about her contract with the city. She left within the past month. – KC Business Journal

This isn’t a huge surprise as a rift between Nugent and the city went public back in December

Nugent is angry, frustrated, even bewildered.

“I’ve been the face of this,” she said this week. “And now, all of a sudden, where is she?”

So what happened? Officials all over town praise Nugent for giving birth to a once-crazy idea that no longer seems crazy. They acknowledge Kansas City would be nowhere without her. They say the city offered her a contract, then backed away. – Kansas City Star
