Getting House and Senate members to pay their dues to their respective party re-election committees has always been a problem, so the DCCC has come up with a new carrot:
Eager to bank cash for the 2012 cycle, House Democratic leaders are pushing lawmakers to pony up their annual party committee dues early in exchange for perks at this fall’s Democratic National Convention.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee sent out a one-page convention package sheet recently, outlining a “Premier Package” and “Gold Package” that include much sought-after hotel accommodations and convention hall passes for the three-day event in Charlotte, N.C.
Access to sky boxes during official convention proceedings, hospitality and viewing areas of the convention center and tickets and preferred entry to DCCC events, including tickets to an event honoring Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) 25th year in Congress, tickets to an event honoring the Democratic Caucus, tickets to a women’s tea honoring the Democratic Women Members Caucus and daily caucus briefings are also perks afforded to lawmakers qualifying for the programs.
The catch: lawmakers need to fulfill their entire dues, or sign up for what the DCCC calls a “sustainer’s package” by the end of January or the end of February.
