| http://m.guardian.co.uk/society/2012/jun/05/why-working-class-people-vote-conservative?cat=society&type=article After reading this, and getting mad, at first, then trying to see what of it makes sense.... Maybe an almost reverse libertarian platform. Not sure who is the person to lead such an organization, but maybe if we share the concept enough, we can figure out how to bring working people back to the Democratic Party. Think about it, the only time most of those folks have voted Democrat for president was in the great depression, after the GHWB recession of 1991 and in the meltdown of 2008. we need a message that reaches them when they are not on their knees!
I cant see turning our back on gays, immigrants nor the environment, but we need to make these moral arguments they can understand while promoting a pro America, pro family (but not anti abortion), pro faith message, encouraging personal liberty and promoting a social contract that makes sense to them.
Maybe its time to make a ledger of the things they value and the core values of progressives and reframe and reprioritize our message and purpose.... |
