San Francisco for 2016 Democratic National Convention? #DNC2016

The San Francisco Bay Area is hosting America’s Cup and has bragging rights to the 2016 Super Bowl — so what’s next?

Some Democrats are already suggesting city leaders get to work pursuing the 2016 Democratic National Convention.

California Democratic campaign strategist Bob Mulholland has laid out the case in a letter to San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee this week, urging him to submit a proposal for the city to host its first DNC since 1984 — when Geraldine Ferraro became the first woman nominee for vice president.

Is San Francisco, bolstered by plenty of Democratic donors and Silicon Valley innovation, in a position of strength for the moment if (some Dems say when) former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton becomes the first female presidential nominee?

Mulholland argues it is.

But 2016 makes the year perfect for SF, because “both parties will be going through a wide open” election with no incumbent as president and a presidential primary season with lots of media attention.

California’s big media markets, it wealth of donors, and the Bay Area’s strength position as ground zero of the innovation technology universe (and SF’s fabulous convention center) make it attractive, many would agree. -SFGate.com

I wonder where they're going to propose holding it? SF doesn't have a world class basketball/hockey arena. The '84 convention was held at Moscone Convention Center, but it was the last Dem convention not primarily held in an indoor sports arena.
