The RNC site selection committee was expected later Thursday to announce the latest cut among six cities still vying for the major event, including Las Vegas, Dallas, Kansas City, Mo., Denver, Cleveland and Cincinnati.
But the news was not looking good for Nevada, state Republicans said.
“I anticipate we are going to be arguing for 2020,” said U.S. Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev. “This is like the Olympics. You don’t get it your first stab at it.”
Heller said he received a text on Wednesday from Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki, chairman of the Nevada Host Committee pitching the RNC, that indicated Las Vegas was not expected to advance as a finalist in the bidding for the convention. - Las Vegas Review Journal
Check back later today to see the list of finalists
- According to John Ralston @RalstonReports Las Vegas withdrew from consideration.
When you realize you are not going to have the money and your arena is questionable, you withdraw before being rejected.
- Cincinnati has also withdrawn their bid. Reports are saying Dallas and Kansas City are finalists. No word yet on Denver or Cleveland.
- Cleveland is also reportedly a finalist. Looks like nobody will be rejected since Las Vegas and Cincinnati backed out.
Update - The Kansas City Host Committee has announced that Kansas City is officially a finalist.
