Milwaukee, Kansas City and Salt Lake planning bids to host GOP 2024 Convention

Milwaukee didn’t really get its 2020 Democratic convention, but is going after the GOP event in 2024:

Milwaukee’s formal bid to host the Republican National Convention in 2024 came in at more than 200 pages and was submitted last week.

It also talks about the city’s experience preparing to host the Democratic National Convention in 2020, though the event itself was largely virtual due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Kansas City wants it:

More than seven years ago, as they sought to land the 2016 Republican National Convention, Kansas City officials and civic leaders put up what a site selection official called an “all-in effort.”

The courtship included millions of dollars in cash pledges from local businesses and governments, an offer to build $7 million worth of new hospitality spaces and suites downtown, and a formal dinner for 300 at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, complete with fireworks.

Cleveland was the winning bidder. But this week, Kansas City indicated its interest in trying again, this time for the 2024 RNC.

As does Salt Lake:

The Utah Republican Party wants Salt Lake City to host the party’s national convention in 2024.

The party, along with Visit Salt Lake, made their opening pitch to the Republican National Convention in Washington, D.C., earlier this week.

“There hasn’t been a Republican National Convention west of the Mississippi River since 1996 when it was in San Diego,” Carson Jorgensen, chairman of the Utah Republican Party, said.

Other cities which have expressed interest include Las Vegas, Houston, Nashville and Pittsburgh.
